The Department of Business Administration of Taipei Tech (formerly known as the Institute of Business Automation and Management) is established in August 1998. Recognizing the disruption from digital technology, our department examined the impact of digital technology on different disciplines of business management and reviewed the department’s focus and curriculum design. After a year of discussions and consultations with industry experts and alumni leaders, our new curriculum was finalized in the second semester of the 2010 academic year with the goal of "cultivating management talents in the digital age." The new curriculum launched starting in the 2011 academic year for our three academic programs (undergraduate, full time and part-time master’s program) with these highlights:
Through the design of curriculum modules based on digital transformation, the new curriculum deepens the professional training of students of various academic systems in the application of digital technology in multiple fields. The new curriculum links leading companies in various industries with corporate internships that strengthen the professional knowledge and skills taught in the course. It provides applied training on topics such as digital marketing, digital transformation, business data analysis, and decision science, combined with industry knowledge such as on service technology, corporate finance, human resources and organizational strategies, to comprehensively train management talents in the digital era. The new curriculum is complemented with training in Python, R, IBM SPSS Modeler, SAS Viya, and other related software tools to seamlessly integrate with enterprise applications.
At present, the courses in Business Management Department are divided into five modules.(Graduate and undergraduate schools)
Digital Marketing and Analytics | From managing websites and design to social media and traffic analysis, knowledge of digital marketing and analysis is an integral part of doing business in the 21st century. Marketers need not only the understanding and application of marketing concepts, but also the analytical ability to process data and analyze the effectiveness of marketing activities. This module covers marketing strategies and consumer behavior, with emphasis on the applied analysis of data for Internet marketing, such as search engine optimization (SEO), paid advertising, content marketing, social marketing and data visualization. Students will learn how to set marketing goals, define target customers, select marketing channels and indicators, and plan and optimize marketing strategies, developing comprehensive skills in digital marketing and analysis. |
Business Analysis and Decision-making | Training students to integrate professional business knowledge, and use business intelligence (BI) and Decision Science (DS) technology to develop innovative business models and management decision-making capabilities. BI is based on data science; while DS is built upon the analysis of business intelligence. We hope to cultivate business analysts in the era of digital transformation. Students can apply jobs in the area of information management, business intelligence, data science, data analysis, etc. The module of business analysis and decision-making provides six core courses, including, Data Mining and Business Intelligence, Multivariate analysis, Managerial Decision Making Models, Quantitative Management and Decision Making, Customer Relationship Management, Deep Learning and Business Forecasting. The graduate module courses focuses on data mining, deep learning, measurement management optimization methods, and the application of related software. The module courses in the undergraduate program includes five subjects: database system and application, statistical data analysis, data science and visualization, and decision analysis. The undergraduate module courses focus on data management and application, basic statistical analysis, data visualization, optimization methods and software applications. |
Corporate Governance | The purposes of the corporate finance module are: (i) to develop students’ financial management knowledge (the financial management course); (ii) to establish students' analysis and understanding of various governance ethics issues within enterprises (the corporate governance course). The module also focuses on cultivating students with knowledge and skills such as: (i) the ability to analyze international industrial and economic situations (the analysis of macroeconomics course), (ii) the skills to apply the corporate financial strategies (the management accounting and the mergers and acquisitions courses), and (iii) the capability to become the entrepreneur (entrepreneurship and business planning courses). |
Global Strategy and Organization Management | Strategy formulation and Human resources management are among the most important links in global organizational management, which determinate the survival and sustainable competitiveness of an organization. The main goal of the global strategy and organization management group offers professional training tailored for students at different stages. The objective of the undergraduate program is to provide the students professional and practical skills which are needed by enterprises. The graduate program focuses on cultivating logical thinking and strategic vision to prepare students to become well-rounded professional managers in the future. Courses in our group includes fundamental management, introduction to business, human resource management, leadership, incentive strategies, organizational behavior, organizational management theory, international business management, cross-cultural management as well as strategic management. Through a series of professional courses, ranging from introductory to advanced levels, students are provided with specialist knowledge and practical skills, and prepared for the needs of the industry. |
Digital Transformation and Innovation Management | Digital transformation, technology management, and entrepreneurship are the critical issues for enterprises today. The development of innovative digital technology enables enterprises to transform from process to business model and generates innovative business concepts. Handling technological trend and effectively managing innovation are particularly essential. This module expects to use the trend of technological development as the foundations such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and service science. In addition, integrating by the concepts of technology management and entrepreneurship to extend digitalization and innovation of enterprises to society. Finally, assisting enterprises to develop talents with basic knowledge and technological concepts. |
